Ollie Steele Burden Manor, Baton Rouge, LA, affiliated with The Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System. (2010)
Project:
Major Renovation to 134 Bed facility, 76,000 square feet, with original section built in 1960 and an addition built in 1990.
Challenge:
Deinstitutionalize the facility and increase space for resident use. Project completed in phases while facility remained in service.
Solution:
Create a more home-like setting for residents:
- Extensive finish and lighting upgrades.
- Traditional nursing stations were broken down and functions relocated.
- Created “neighborhood kitchens” as focal points of each unit. A comfort area where residents can make tea and cookies with their grandkids.
