Alexander Milne Home for Women, over 160 year old non-profit foundation for developmentally challenged ladies, relocating to St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana (2009)
Project:
New Construction, 70 Bed Assisted Living Facility, 44,500 square feet on 17 acres
Challenge:
Provide a safe and secure environment where the residents will reside with their peers and grow and flourish as women.
Solution:
The design of the facility:
- Includes an interior open air courtyard with full glazing surround which allows supervision while maintaining the dignity and freedom of movement for the residents.
- Resident rooms are arranged around semi-private living rooms providing an intimate setting for social interaction with natural light filtering into space from clerestory windows above.
- Multi-functional spaces house the many diverse activities for the ladies to enjoy creating a lifetime of learning environment.The ample outdoor space surrounding the building is designed for leisure and exercise.
